Understanding the bees in our garden:
Bees and other pollinators are under threat and need our help to survive, by understanding the behaviour of the bee along with their needs and the problems they are encountering you can help a vital part of our environment.

There are many ways we can help our bees, from simple changes to our gardening to becoming a responsible beekeeper, and our courses can show you how.

Importance of Bees:
Bees are in danger of disappearing from our environment. Farming practices continue to disturb the natural habitats and forage of solitary and bumblebees at a rate that gives them little chance for re-establishment. The honeybee is under attack from the Varroa mite, and it is only the treatment and care provided by beekeepers that is keeping colonies alive. It is therefore essential that we look after all bees by providing essential forage in our gardens and responsibly managing our honeybees to prevent disease spread and food shortages.

Bees are some of the hardest working creatures on the planet, and because of their laborious work ethic we owe many thanks to this amazing yet often under-appreciated insect.  Our lives – and the world as a whole – would be a much different place if bees didn’t exist.

Join us on our Bee Courses:
Our bee courses offer the chance to learn about the wild bees in your garden and the art of keeping honeybees responsibly.  Beekeeping is a fascinating past-time but beware it can become addictive from the very first time you open a hive and peer inside! It is an interest that can just keep growing, as you begin to understand more and more about how these little insects work as an incredible and complex colony there is endless knowledge to gain.  On our courses you will learn new skills in a friendly, relaxed environment.  Courses are held in small groups, making use of our indoor and outdoor training areas, in and around our converted poultry barn.
